* The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) once
said: "Doomsday is around the corner, but humans are still
lusting for the world and are distant from Allah." Then he
added. "The world is a prison for the believers and paradise for
the unbelievers." [Muslim]
* Three [people] are entitled to Allah’s help.
The fighter (mujahid) in the cause of Allah, the trustee, and
the person who marries for protection (of his or her modesty). [Tirmidhi]
* Yahya related to me from Malik that Yahya ibn
Said said that he heard Said ibn al-Musayyab say, "Shall I
tell you what is better than much prayer and sadaqa?" They
said, "Yes." He said, "Mending discord. And
beware of hatred - it strips you (of your deen)." (Malik's
Muwatta Book 47, # 47.1.7)
* Narrated Ibn 'Abbas: The Prophet used to
invoke Allah at night, saying, "O Allah: All the Praises are for
You: You are the Lord of the Heavens and the Earth. All the
Praises are for You; You are the Maintainer of the Heaven and
the Earth and whatever is in them. All the Praises are for You;
You are the Light of the Heavens and the Earth. Your Word is the
Truth, and Your Promise is the Truth, and the Meeting with You
is the Truth, and Paradise is the Truth, and the (Hell) Fire is
the Truth, and the Hour is the Truth.
O Allah! I surrender myself to You, and I believe in You and I
depend upon You, and I repent to You and with You (Your
evidences) I stand against my opponents, and to you I leave the
judgment (for those who refuse my message). O Allah! Forgive me
my sins that I did in the past or will do in the future, and
also the sins I did in secret or in public. You are my only God
(Whom I worship) andthere is no other God for me (i.e. I worship
none but You)." (Sahih Bukhari)
* Shaddad bin Aws (R) related that the Prophet
(peace and blessings be upon him) said: He who is wise and
strong, keeps his inordinate appetites under control and strives
for the life which comes after death; but he who is foolish and
weak subordinates himself to sensual pleasures and yet hopes for
the best from his Lord. (Ibn Majah, Tirmidhi)
* The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said:
"Three things that I swear to be true are that a man's
property does not become less on account of (giving) charity;
that when a man is wronged and bears it patiently, God will give
him greater honor on that account; and that when a man (begs
without dire need), God opens for him a door toward
poverty." (Tirmidhi, # 1397)

the Prophet (PBUH) , "Which of the deeds is loved most by
Allah?'' Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said, "Salat at its

``Jihad in the way of Allah.'' [Al-Bukhari and Muslim].

most superior among you are those who learn the Qur'an and teach
it.” (Bukhari 6/546)
* Abdullah bin Umar (RA) narrated that Allah’s Messenger(SAW)
said, “Do not wish to be like anybody except in two cases: The
case of a man whom Allah has given wealth and he spends it in
the right way; and that of a man whom Allah has given religious
wisdom (i.e., Qur'an and Sunnah) and he gives his verdicts
according to it, and teaches it to others.” (Bukhari 9/419 and
6/543)
* The Prophet Muhammad (SAW) told his
companions: "I am not afraid that you will be poor, but I
fear that worldly wealth will be bestowed upon you as it
was bestowed upon those before you. (Then) you will
compete amongst yourselves for it, as they competed for it, and
it will destroy you as it did them." (Bukhari, Volume 5,
Hadith 351)

* Hudhaifah (RA) narrated that Allah’s Messenger
(SAW) said to us, "Honesty descended from the Heavens and
settled in the roots of the hearts of men (faithful believers),
and then the Qur'an was revealed and the people read the Qur'an,
(and learned from it) and also learned it from the Sunnah. Both
Qur'an and Sunnah strengthened their (the faithful believers’)
honesty.” (Bukhari 9/381)
* Yahya related to me from Malik from Suhayl ibn
Abi Salih from his father from Abu Hurayra that the Messenger of

reconciliation. Leave these two until they have made a
reconciliation.' "

Book of Allah and learn and teach the Qur'an (among themselves),
there will descend upon them tranquility, mercy will cover them.
The angels will surround them and Allah will mention them in the
presence of those near Him. He who is slow-paced in doing good
deeds, his (long) descent does not make him go ahead.” (Muslim
6518)
* Abu Kabsha al-Anmari (RA) narrated that Allah’s Messenger
(SAW) said, "There are three things which I swear to be true,
and I shall tell you something else, so keep it in mind. The
three things which I swear to be true are: that a man’s property
does not become less on account of sadaqah; that when a man is
wronged and bears it patiently Allah will give him greater honor
on that account; and that when a man opens a door towards
begging Allah opens for him a door towards poverty. The thing I
am going to tell you which you must keep in mind is this. The
world has only four types of people: 1) A man whom Allah
provides with property and knowledge, in which he fears his Rabb
and joins ties of relationship, acting in it towards Allah as is
due to Him, this man being in the most excellent station. 2) A
man whom Allah provides with knowledge but not with property,
who says with a sincere intention that if he had property he
would act as so and so does, their reward being equal. 3) A man
whom Allah provides with property but not with knowledge, in
which he acts in a random manner ignorantly, not fearing his
Rabb respecting it, or using it to join ties of relationship, or
dealing with it in a right way, this man being in the worst
station. 4) A man whom Allah provides with neither property nor
knowledge, who says that if he had property he would deal with
it as so and so does and has this intention, the load they have
to bear being equal.” (Tirmidhi 5287)

* Abdullah ibn Mas`ud (RA) narrated that Allah’s Messenger (SAW)
said to him: “Acquire the knowledge and impart it to the people.
Acquire the knowledge of Fara'id (laws of inheritance) and teach
it to the people. Learn the Qur'an and teach it to the people
;for I am a person who has to depart this world.. The knowledge
will be taken away and turmoil will appear to such an extent
that two people will not agree in regard to a case of
inheritance distribution and find none who would decide between
them.” (Tirmidhi 279)
* Abu Hurairah (RA) narrated that Allah’s Messenger (SAW) said,
“He who acquires knowledge by which Allah’s pleasure is sought,
(and) he does not acquire it, but (acquires it) to gain worldly
good, will not sense the odor of the Paradise on the Day of
Resurrection.” (Ibn Majah 1/252)
* Ka’b ibn Malik (RA) narrated that Allâh’s Messenger (SAW) said
“He who acquires knowledge in order to fall into polemics with
other scholars and prove his superiority over them, or to
dispute with the ignorant or to attract the attention of the
people, Allâh will throw him in the Fire.” (Tirmidhi 225 and Ibn
Majah narrated by Abdullâh Ibn Umar)
* It has been narrated on the authority of Sulayman ibn Yasar
(RA) who said “People dispersed from around AbuHurayrah, and
Natil, who was from the Syrians, said to him: ‘O Shaykh, relate
(to us) a tradition you have heard from Allâh’s Messenger
(SAW).’ He said “Yes. I heard the Allâh’s Messenger (SAW) said
‘The first man (whose case) will be decided on the Day of
Judgment, will be a man who died as a martyr. He shall be
brought (before the Judgment Seat). Allâh will make him recount
His blessings (i.e. the blessings which He had bestowed upon
him) and he will recount them (and admit having enjoyed them in
his life). (Then) will Allâh say: ‘What did you do (to requite
these blessings)?’ He will say: ‘I fought for Thee until I died
as a martyr.’ Allâh will say: ‘You have told a lie. You fought
so that you might be called a brave warrior. And you were called
so.’ (Then) orders will be passed against him and he will be
dragged with his face downward and cast into Hell. Then, there
will be brought forward a man who acquired knowledge and
imparted it (to others) and recited the Qur’ân. He will be
brought, Allâh will make him recount His blessings and he will
recount them (and admit having enjoyed them in his lifetime).
Then will Allâh ask: ‘What did you do (to requite these
blessings)?’ He will say: ‘I acquired knowledge and disseminated
it and recited the Qur’ân, seeking Your pleasure.’ Allâh will
say: ‘You have told a lie. You acquired knowledge so that you
might be called “a scholar”, and you recited the Qur’ân so that
it might be said “He is a Qari” and such has been said.’ Then
orders will be passed against him and he shall be dragged with
his face downward and cast into the Fire. Then will be brought a
man whom Allâh had made abundantly rich and had granted every
kind of wealth. He will be brought, Allâh will make him recount
His blessings and he will recount them and (admit having enjoyed
them in his lifetime). Allâh will (then) ask: ‘What have you
done (to requite these blessings)?’ He will say: ‘I spent money
in every cause in which You wished that it should be spent.’
Allâh will say: ‘You are lying. You did (so) that it might be
said about (you): “He is a generous fellow”, and so it was
said.’ Then will Allâh pass orders and he will be dragged with
his face downward and thrown into Hell.” (Muslim 4688)
* Jabir Bin Abdullah (RA) narrated that Allah’s Messenger (SAW)
used to say in his prayer after tashahhud, “The most excellent
words are the words of Allah and the most excellent guidance is
the guidance given by Muhammad (SAW).” (Tirmidhi 956 and Nasa'i)

“The knowledge from which no benefit is derived is like a
treasure out of which nothing is spent in the cause of Allah.” (Tirmidhi

said, “The superiority of a scholar, who observes the prescribed
prayer and then sits down to teach people goodness, over the
worshipper, who observes fast during the day and worships during
the night, is like my superiority over the lowest in rank
amongst you.” (Tirmidhi 250)

said: “A single scholar of religion is more formidable against
Satan than a thousand devout people.” (Tirmidhi 217 and Ibn
Majah)

said, “A man shall be asked concerning five things on the day of
resurrection: concerning his life, how he spent it; concerning
his youth, how he grew old; concerning his wealth, whence he
acquired it, and in what way he spent it; and what was it that
he did with the knowledge that he had.” (Tirmidhi 5197)
* Abdullah ibn Abbas (RA) narrated that Allah’s Messenger (SAW)
said, “Acquiring knowledge in company for an hour in the night
is better than spending the whole night in prayer.” (Tirmidhi
256)
* The Prophet (SAW) said: "There are seven whom
Allah will shade in His Shade on the day when there is no shade
except His Shade: a just ruler; a youth who grew up in the
worship of Allah, the Mighty and Majestic; a man whose heart is
attached to the mosques; two men who love each other for Allah's
sake, meeting for that and parting upon that; a man who is
called by a woman of beauty and position [for illegal
intercourse], but he says: 'I fear Allah;' a man who gives in
charity and hides it, such that his left hand does not know what
his right hand gives in charity; and a man who remembered Allah
in private and so his eyes shed tears."
(Bukhari & Muslim)
