Verily, Allâh enjoins Justice and Correctness, and helping kith and kin and forbids lewd acts and all kinds of evil deed and oppression. He admonishes you so that you may take heed. (An-Nahl: 90) |

Write to the Muslims incarcerated in UK without chargeThere are a number of brothers detained in prisons across the UK
without trial or charge, who are subject - along with their families
- to the mental torture of never knowing if, or when they will be
released. Support your Muslim brothers by writing to them and
offering support and reminders for them at the contact addresses
provided below.
The letters can be as short as a paragraph, preferably written in
your own handwriting as it is more personal, or if you do not have
time to write a letter, you can buy a set of 'Thinking of You'
cards. The content of the letters should be encouraging them to be
patient, reminding them to have hope and that they have not been
forgotten. This should not take more than half an hour and should
not cost you more than £3. However, it may give hope to a prisoner
for whom half an hour is like half a year.
Please also write to Mamdouh Abu Rideh who will be spending his
fourth Eid in prison. Mamdouh Abu Rideh was diagnosed as suffering
from severe post traumatic stress disorder, having been tortured in
Israel and his imprisonment in Belmarsh has triggered flashbacks. He
was transferred to Broadmoor high security psychiatric hospital but
experts believe he should be placed near his family at a hospital
with less oppressive security measures. The Home Office, accused of
“unprecedented political interference” by the doctors of Broadmoor,
has ignored this advice. Abu Rideh tries to harm himself with pens,
plastic anything he can find, setting himself on fire, drinking
toilet cleaner, dozens of scars up and down his arms. He says of his
time in British custody: “What I have been through in this place is
worse than when I was detained in Israel when I was tortured. They
have destroyed me.” |
