Luton Community Conference

  Topics include:

    *  Highlighting the cases of those detained without access to due legal process in Belmarsh and Guantanamo.

    * Detailing the absence of acceptable means of appeal and the physical and mental impact on the families of those detained.  

    * Focusing on current anti-terrorism legislation and the stereotyping of Muslims nationwide creating an atmosphere of fear

  * Analysing the proposals made by D. Blunkett to lower the boundaries for arrests related to terrorism.

  *  An overview of the Islamic perspective of justice and the need for equal treatment.

  Clear and practical steps will be presented detailing the way forward for the Muslim community in the UK.

    *  Focusing on the need for a coordinated response in light of the pace of judicial reform.

  * The need for community education and involvement in safeguarding rights, protecting families and future generations.

  * Proposals for a comprehensive and co-ordinated response in the form of Luton Muslim Community Liaisons Unit (LMCLU)
